Love
With Valentine's Day almost upon us, what do you know of love? There has been a lot written about it. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about it often, in fact he said their were three kinds of love: eros, philia, and agape, and of the three, agape was the most divine.

As a part of this reflective assignment, go to the library and find a book, a published song, a poem or an article about love, and incorporate it into your response. How did you end up with the resource you chose to share?
Bring it into class on February 14 along with a symbol of love's discontent, exploitation or true meaning. Think creatively. You will have 1-2 minutes to share with the class.

I don't think that one love is more important or more valuable than the other. I feel they all are of equal importance. How are we to say that an eros love is more valuable than philia? We can't compare them in the same way because they are two completely different types of love.
During the class discussin on Valentine's day I found myself agreeing with Tomas's point of view on love. He stated that agape was a kind of standard love. Like air, you know it's there, but you don't think of it.
I believe that agape is the love that is the begining of the love journey that each person will take in life. This love will help us learn to love ourself, and in doing so we will learn to love others like our friends.
Agape, the standard love leads to philia. The kind of love we have for our dear friends. Many times philia can blossom into an eros love for that friend.
Eros love is a more passionate love, a desire, a longing for that person. It's the butterflies we get in our stomachs when we are near the person we desire so. This love in turn plays a big role in procreation.
Being able to experiance love is the greatest gift that God has given us next to life. We should experiance it to the fullest.

out of all three types of love we have discussed I feel that Agape is the most important. To me it depends on your age. When youre an adolescent eros and philia are more important but when you get older agape becomes more.

Of the three kinds of Greek love, I think that agape love is the most valuable. Why? Because agape love points to a kind of love that is selfless - a love that lack selfishnes, self indulgence, and self perservation.
I agree with Jose Ayala's posting...he stated that it depends on the age of an individual. One, at the adolescent stage might think that philia love is important, where another at an adult age may think that eros love is more important.

In my opinion I really believe philia is the best type of love. It shows love for everything essential in life such as love for you family, your job, and your community. This love will go so far in the world which it really needs.
I know some day the other from of love is going to appear in my life and will be used like erros or agape. I don’t agree with Jose, I pick philia which is the most important and I use this form of love everyday.

During this assignmentthe class was given three words which represents three different types of love: Agape, Eros and Philia. There is actually one other one that I recently found which is stergo which is the love for parents. I dont believe that there is a type of love that is most important. From my opinion love for your religion, love for family, affection, and sexually is all important.
I also defintley agree with Jose, stating that it really depends on your age and what stage is the individual going through. During your childhood years stergo and Agape, and when you hit the adolescent years that is when eros comes, and when you get older than that i believe that all of these type of love will be in effect and be very important in a persons life.
