Today's homework is to complete the Iraq 4 Years Later Cyber-Response.

Teaching Reflections
I have gotten feedback from several of you regarding the writing process and your need for more instruction around the "How To." Beginning Wednesday, besides addressing your list of composition questions, we will do a writing exercise related to one of these concerns such as: recognizing a thesis sentence, developing a good thesis sentence, issues of unity in paragraphs, coherence in essays, common grammar errors, essay organization and the use of transitional ideas to link key elements together.

My philosophy is that the way one becomes a great writer is to read great writers and write, write, write. What we want to do before the Spring Break is identify for each of you your strengths and weaknesses in the writing process which includes reading and critical thinking.

With this in mind, please pick up a rubric if you don't already have one at my office. I will start putting numbers on your papers to correspond to the grade.
You can refer to the rubric to better understand the specifics of what you did well and what you still need to work on. Also the narratives included with the revisions are also a helpful way to articulate what it is you did to improve the composition.

I think best feedback comes from 1-on-1 conversation and I highly recommend that you make an appointment or drop by to see me. I will set aside Thursdays for in-class conferences with students so everyone will have this opportunity.

I hope you have identified your social entrepreneur for the research essay. I encourage the interview, which means you cannot wait until the last moment to schedule this with the person you wish to profile. The assignment is not an easy one and takes time to complete. You will also be presenting your paper.

After a four-year period of war nothing has improved for the best of the United States. Even though the USA is for War against terrorism there are other nations that may interfere with that purpose because these nations could result affected by the circumstances that the USA has been used against terrorism, and the impact that warns American Society and the world, with different points of views and perspectives, is on the president and on the representatives who has the power to make the change about ending the War.
Four years has been gone since the war in Iraq started and, still, the American society hasn't accepted the fact that the USA force is in Iraq for the consequences done by an organization named al-Qaeda on September 11, 2001. Since this date, American Society has been impacted for all of the positive and negative acts during the War in Iraq. For example, I read in The New York Times (nytimes.com) in today’s news that President Bush is asking for patience in Iraq. David Stout from (NYT) said that “President Bush marked the fourth anniversary of the start of the start of the Iraq war today by prodding Congress to pass an emergency war-spending bill and by warning the American people that hard days lie ahead”. In my opinion, I am wondering why President Bush does not want to stop the killing and retried the US forces out of Iraq. As he said in his speech “At this point in the war, our most important mission is helping the Iraquis secure their capital,” and than, he said “Until Baghdad’s citizens feel secure in their own homes and neighborhoods, it will be difficult for Iraqis to make further progress toward political reconciliation or economic rebuilding—steps necessary for Iraq to build a democratic society.” So while all this is happening how many more people are still going to die just because of the President’s decision? I wish someday sooner President Bush will find the human love that we all need to have in order to make the change in this world.
While “President Bush Calls for patience on Iraq” (BBC NEWS) many people are suffering the consequences of war. As president Bush said in a speech that “To mark four years since the 2003 invasion, those on the ground were seeing “hopeful signs””. From my point of view by looking into an article from (BBC NEWS) it seems that the majority of people overall wants Iraq to remain as a “unified country”. Now President Bush’s plan is to send more US troops for the security of Baghdad and other province too. Now, in these four years that has been war among Iraq, what benefits have American Communities gain? None, in the contrary we have been short in supporting other sources of help, like schools and some community services that used to help the elderly and children without benefits.
As President Bush said “The terrorists could emerge from the chaos with a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they had in Afghanistan which they used to plan the attacks of September 11, 2001. For the safety of the American people we cannot allow this to happen.” My question is, could the USA be attempt again by al-Qaeda and is the USA really prepared for if it really happens? Without so many troops away from the USA how can the USA be prepared? As communities are opposing war in Iraq, they need to do more than just trying. They need to make the change to stop the decisions of the ones who has the power to take the lead.

Its been four drastic years for the American people and the Iraqi people. We have been fighting a war that doesn’t make sense to most of the citizens of both countries. Bush decided four years ago that we were going to fight a war of terrorism and look for “Nuclear Weapons” but we had no luck with finding the so called weapons. And we all know the main reason we are still there, is for there oil. The war was supposed to protect the American citizens but this war is making us more horrified because we are thinking of a repeat of September 11. September 11 has effected everyone and everything in our society. One person that I know that this war has effected personally is my next door neighbor. He was sent to Iraq in 2005 to give the Iraqi people their freedom. The thing I don’t understand is why are we trying to give the Iraqi people their freedom, there on the other side of the world and I don’t think that is any of our concern if they get their freedom. I wish the best for the Iraqi people but it is just ruining our country. I interviewed my neighbor about his visit to Iraq, he explained to me that he never thought it would be the way it was. He also explained that seeing all the horrible things on the news is not even half of what is really going on. He has to report back to duty when they call him back. This war has effected me a lot because I never thought that my race would be a problem living in America but I guess I thought wrong. No one has ever insulted me personally but I know many friends and family members that had lost long term friends after September 11. And every time a watch T.V there’s always someone commenting on Arabs and Muslims. Like once I was watching Tyra Banks and she had an episode on what you think of other races. Every time it came back to the Arab/Muslim girl she was a “Terrorist” or someone that would carry weapons. And it really hit me that I was set in that stereotype. According to the BBC web site “President Bush says he sees hopeful signs in the struggle to secure Iraq but stresses that the Iraqi people need continuing support as they work to secure their country and build a democracy. "The fight is difficult, but it can be won,” Bush says in televised remarks March 19. “It will be won if we have the courage and resolve to see it through." Like I said before we are fighting a war that does not make any sense. If we are trying to make them feel safe then why are we still killing their loved ones and friends. I believe that we are just getting in the way for them to live there lives.

With many lives of family and friends affected emotionally and physically, the war in Iraq has been a four year never-ending struggle. Even though there are many alternatives, our President chose to go to war after our nation was attacked. We went to war to stop terrorism in its track, but somehow the President got some intelligence that there are weapons of mass destruction. There are positive and negative points that evolved from the effects of the war. For one, we have gotten a chance to capture potential terrorists who are potentially dangerous and who helped Iraq become a better nation. In contrast, as a result of that, many lives of our fellow American soldiers has been taken. Although the war in Iraq has been a four year struggle, I am against it because people are dying daily.
Last week in class, Ms. Sabir told us a startling fact, “After four years in the war, the number of Iraqi people who died in the war is equivalent to the population of the people in the Bay Area.” I was shocked when I heard this fact because this is a great amount of people. We have been going to the war for four years and we still have not found any weapons of mass destruction.
You never know if it’s hidden hard somewhere but I doubt it. Iraq is a poor nation but it is steadily being rebuilt by Americans afterall we were the ones who’d destroyed it. Bottom line is that the war is costing a lot of money; instead we need to invest our money into bigger and better things in life; in my suggestion—better things such as schools, our environment and cure for various diseases those are just some suggestions.
I feel bad for the families who are also affected by the war. Personally I have a lot of friends and one family member who have been in the war. Thank God that they are all safe and they all came back home in one piece. There are, however, a lot of unfortunate individuals that didn’t quite make it; and there are also others who came home with missing limbs who has to live that way for the rest of their lives. Not to mention, again the ridiculously amount of Iraqi people we killed. I think that we should pack up our troops and just call it quits. We need peace in the world. Why would you go to another country and kill someone you don’t even know? How do you think the Iraqi people feel about strangers invading their country and trying to investigate on weapons of mass destruction? Are Americans really there for weapons of mass destruction and to fight for terrorism or are we there for the oil?
The war in Iraq has posed an enormous affect on our economy and on many families as well. We need to stop the war, thus stop killing more innocent people. Instead, we need to make peace and save our money and use it toward more important causes in life.

With a blatant disregard for the will of the American people our Comander-In-Chief has kept us in a war against Iraqi “insurgents” who are supposedly backed by actual terrorist (Al-Qaeda). However with all the lives lost coalition and Iraqi alike, the question remains, has the war been a good thing for America and the world?

Well the war has been good to Americans who invest in “war companies”, businesses contracted to help fight terrorism. these war companies’ stock have soared according to the economist.

As Americans, we like to think of our country as a beacon of hope and justice for the world. although we usually never shine as bright as we think we do, the war has definitely dimmed that light a bit. even in the country we’re supposed to be liberating, after four years only twenty-six percent of Iraqi’s feel safe in their own neighborhood. Seventy-eight want the coalition troops to leave Iraq, says Al Jazeera news.

Of all the issues affecting Americans today when it comes to the war on terrorism, one of the most serious is the striping away of our civil liberties. Anyone deemed a terror suspect can be held indefinitely with no charges brought against them. Also by wrapping the war in Iraq in patriotism, the president persuaded congress to give up their oversight responsibility and allow power to be consolidated in the Administration. with so much authority in the hands of one branch abuse of power has been ongoing. The SFgate reports that congress is finally investigating illegal and improper spying on innocent americans by the FBI.

Has the war been a good thing for America and the world? Only time will truly tell. But when Americans are the ones being targeted as terrorists and instead of bringing peace to a people we destabilize their country and then ultimately leave their homeland in total chaos, I would have to say today no, this war hasn’t served us of the world well at all.

The Lost Four Years

Four years ago, the Iraq War outbreak predictably on March 20; at present, Saddam Hussein had been trailed and executed, however Bush decided to send more troops to Iraq. The war had stretched longer, with higher casualties and costs, than the White House ever predicted. However, we couldn’t find any gleam of hope for peace. Religious conflict between Sunni and Shia Iraqis became more and more acute. Suicide bombers killed more and more civilians. It seems that the civil warfare in Iraq would never come to an end. Who is the winner of Iraq War? Nobody knows. However, both the U.S. and Iraq are the losers of this war.

The Guardian’s Audrey Gillan reported the sad story about Kadhim al-Jubouri, who was ever an Iraqi weightlifting champion. Four year ago, he slammed the concrete plinth of the Saddam Hussein statue with a sledgehammer. Now he felt nothing but regret. Iraqis were still poor as under Saddam while the prices became higher and higher. The situation even became more dangerous. He said: "I really regret bringing down the statue. The Americans are worse than the dictatorship. Every day is worse than the previous day." The researchers in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health reported that about 655,000 Iraqis or more than 500 people a day had died since the coalition forces invaded the Iraq on March 2003. According to a survey in 5000 Iraqis on February 2007, More than one in four said they had had a close relative murdered in the past three years.

When the Iraq War began, President Bush said the U.S.-led coalition forces would work to advance liberty and peace in Iraq. Fours years have been gone and the Iraqis must feel disappointed for the increasing deaths of innocent people and the laggard restoration in Post-War Iraq.

Not only had the Iraqis felt disappointed, the U.S. would also be regretting for this war. The Iraq War has exceeded World War II in length. The cost of this war has overcome the Korea War and would beat the Vietnam War soon. Furthermore, it seems that the nightmare hasn’t come to the end. The Iraq is still bleeding, while both the casualties and war spending bill of U.S. troops in Iraq goes higher and higher. The Democrats’ failed policies in Iraq also leaded to their fail in Midterm election. Besides, the abuse of army force aggravated the structural contradictions between the U.S. and Europe - many long-time U.S. allies, including France and Germany, were openly hostile to the American action. The Public Opinion Strategies released a survey released about the voter’s attitude to the Iraq War. The 67% thought the country was going in the wrong direction and 60% said Iraq will never be a stable democracy.

U.S. isn’t the winner of Iraq War, either the Iraq. Maybe the winner would never exist in any war. The lost four years in Iraq War have taught us a lesson.

When being governed, the governed feel they should be consulted about issues that may harm them. When the United States decided to go to war with Iraq, our mission was steadfastly accepted by the citizens because our President made us believe that it was our only means of protection. We did not know that an ulterior motive was in motion and four year later we have found out that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and his sympathy and remorse for the lives lost, is slim to none. The war on terror has been a one man struggle as our President has grown content with blindfully destroying families, organizing coupes, and maltreating innocent people.

When politicians address issues to their citizens, propaganda is in high array. When we look back at the beginning of the “War on Iraq,” we should honestly be able to say that the President shot us somewhat of a good idea; and we bought it. As propaganda tends to take its toll, citizens did not actually analyze why and how the President wanted our country to fight another. The majority of citizens believed that our attack on Iraq was in retaliation to the brutal attack on New York, September 2001; hence, justifying terrorism. In December 2001 Usatoday report stating, "a majority of non-U.S. opinion leaders, including nearly half of influential’s in Islamic countries, say many or most people in their countries think the U.S. is doing the right thing in fighting terrorism" (http://uspolitics.about.com/b/a/207865.htm).”. These are the ways and statistics that helped the President lobby a minority of congress to join him in his attack. However, looking back, what we bought was thousands of American lives and 25,000 innocent Iraq lives (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3672298.stm).

I am an American citizen and I do not agree with the War on Terror. I believe in God and I do not think that the United States has the right to play God to other countries. At this point, I can not honestly say that Bush or any Presidents efforts, thus far, have added in the worldwide struggle for equality or justice in the world. Why should the US be excluded from atrocities? An African proverb says, “Make your bed as you wish to lye on it”; hence, setting an example for how others will treat you in return. As Americans we should urge our governments to fix the problems plaguing our country and then we can help others efficiently.

The war in Iraq 4 years later

Right now in Iraq the tension between different religions tribes is growing. These tribes are mainly Shia, Sunni, and Kurds. The former dictator Saddam Hussein was his origin from the Sunni tribe. In his time of governing, he had handled the rest tribes unfairly and massacred many of them. This led the country in revenge of each other tribes.
The war had brought instability in the region. Even children those who lost their parents are involved in this civil war. Already some of these kids are taking up arms. Mostly against to members of the opposite sect, to either Sunni or Shia. They are sometimes against Americans troops. These kids have psychological defects while they experienced horrible things happening to them and their families. Iraqi people are in great problems.
The Sunni are complaing about the government in power now. They say they are not handled fairly. The government looks like undergoing revenge. This cant be either a solution to bring a peace. Other problem is also the Shiite Militias for both the government and for the Sunni. These Militias are terrorizing, killing, and forcing out of their homes of the Sunni neighborhoods.
The Administrations’ officials are claiming also differently. That is they are trying to crack down the Shiites Militias’ and to compromise with the Sunni. Generally Iraq is in a deep crisis. The war in Iraq has affected nation wide, its influence even disturbed through out the world. Some of terrorist organizations like Al quads use the time to cause chaos.

War in Iraq.

Although a large majority of US citizens supported the war in Iraq after 9/11, mainly because of fear and the feeling of uncertainty. Four years later the large percentage of Americans are disappointed, angry and fearful of the results the war has brought to our country and the millions of innocent people in the Middle East.
People in the Middle East are being stripped of their culture, families and sense of security.
Americans are also unsure of the real purpose of the war, and finally I think it is impossible to win a war or even positively influence a country when the American mentality is consumed by ethnocentrism and a sense of superiority.
People in Iraq are being killed not only by soldiers but by their own people as well. Many Iraqis, scared by the violence caused by the war and the religious antagonism, have been forced to flee the country. Some of them have been attacked because of being single women, their religious choice or for simply not following the rules of the dominant group or more powerful militia. As one Iraqi woman explains after fleeing the country to Amman, Jordan “we arrive as refugees; we have no rights. We can’t work and we can’t send our children to school”. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/)Furthermore, only “only 18 percent of Iraqis have confidence in their own government and in the US troops”, and “86 percent are concern of someone in their household being hurt” (http://.bbc.com.uk/). The citizens of Iraq are living under stress, terror and suffering.
Right now, I think most Americans are practically clueless of the purpose of the war. There are no weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, there is no need for us to be there, we are wasting our resources and people in a pointless and useless war. Some of the main points Bush likes to talk about when referring to the war are the ideas of establishing democracy in a country that is divided by a civil war. They do not respect us, they simply do not want our help and they certainly do not want our political ideologies.
Last by not least, I don’t think that we are able to truly help a foreign country when we consider ourselves superior. I talked to one soldier who served in Bahrain for a year, and the way he described their people was as “stinky, smelly, ugly and American haters”. When I asked what did he learned from their culture while staying there, his response was “nothing”. I am not by any means blaming the military or the soldiers for this behavior; they are nevertheless humans and Americans like the rest of us. I am blaming the American mentally when it comes to acknowledging the existence of the world around us. We are raise to think that our culture and way of life should be the standard everyone else should follow. Therefore, I think it is difficult to truly and thoughtfully be able to help others when there is lack of respect and understanding.

Although the U.S has been tied to the Middle Eastern country of Iraq for decades, with ties to their oil, the controversy of why U.S. soldiers are there fighting the War on Terroism now is being questioned. The Axis of Evil, the Iraqi's and most Americans are opposed to the War on Terroism, but on the contrary our commander in chief the Honorable George W. Bush is not.

From the standpoint fo a student and current Army National Guard soldier in which I am being deployed, I am against the War on Terroism and I believe that the decision-making Congress are now wising up to see that the Presidents past decisions have put the lives of not only soldiers in the army, but the general welfare of society.

I am against the War on Terrosim and I believe that the war is ongoing because of underlying political pressures in Congress to paricipate in a conflict of interest with Iraq and the money that is being made and spent on that country.
