Field Trips

Friday at Laney College there is a panel discussion on Entrepreneurship in the Performing Arts: "the Music Industry" at Laney College Theatre, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. If you go and write about it, you can have extra credit. This could take the place of one of the field trips. Remember, do not let money keep you from attending a play or the film.

If you were not here and want to attend the play on Friday evening, or Sunday afternoon, or the play next week, there are descriptions outside my office on the ledge by the window and under the bin. If the door is locked, ask Ms. Sachell (Open Lab) to unlock it for you to get the handout. You can just show up and you can be a part of the party. Email me your preferences and how many people are in your group. The theatre tickets are about $10 for both events. You can volunteer at the MacB and get in free. Call the theatre for the details. For Ebony and Johnny, I don't know if there are any volunteet opportunities, so let me know if you are short on cash.

Dear Ms. Sabir,
My dad wouldn't let me go to the play. Is there any thing that I could do on campus to make up the time?

Hi Quyen:

Check with Students Services, there might be an event which would satisfy the assignment. Can your dad go with us?

I had the pleasure of attending the Business Symposium on Friday October 3rd. I was quite disappointed that the two most important people did not show up. MC Hammer and Dwayne Wiggins. They said that he was going to be a little late but did not show at all.

I wanted to experience this for myself and really hear what MC Hammer had to say for hisself and how he just went from rich and famous to just broke in that short amount of time. I have heard rumors throughout the years, but it is nothing like hearing it straight from the horses mouth.

Renee Kemp did an excellent job as the moderator and making sure that everyones questions were answered in a feasible manner.

Most of the students wanted to just know how to get started in the music and movie industry and where can they go to to get financial support.

As i entered into the theatre there was this lovely song being sung by this woman that just took my breath away. She sung the song with such grace and dignity. You could really feel the spirit in the song. Her name was Ms. Branice McKenzie.

Then there was remarks from Dr. Frank Chong that just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support the 5th annual business symposium. Of course we had remarks from Mr. Elihu Harris our Chancellor of Peralta Colleges he also wanted to thank everyone for coming out and supporting the event and wishing the best for everyone.

Renee Kemp touched a subject that i could relate to. She stated that she spoke with alot of teenagers of the Bayarea and like 3 out of 5 said that they wanted to be a rapper. And me having a teenage son that is what he told me but just like Renee stated and i stated to my son that you should look into the business side of the music industry because that is where the true money lies. Get in there and be a Producer/Engineer or even as Mr. Stephen Hart suggested there is big mooney in licensing.
I bet nobody ever thought about that because without these people behinds the scenes the rappers would not make.

Well for the most part i enjoyed it and was glad and sort of disappointed that the two i mentioned earlier did not show up but i was able to get some useful information.
