Interviews...cyber-post

Yes, I know it's late, so if you don't see it until tomorrow post your summary then :-)

We interviewed each other today and then students introduced their peers to the class. We will continue with the oral part of the presentation Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Homework is to bring in a draft of your papers. Everything is a draft, some you turn in because it's due, but for all intents and purposes, a writer can always see the work in a new light. The final draft can be posted with planning sheet, and outline by Friday at 12 noon. You can turn it in on Thursday, Sept. 25, but you will not be penalized if you turn it in the next day.

Please let me know if you are planning to attend the Beat Box event at La Pena on Thursday, Sept. 25. You can respond at the post or call me.

This is Matthew. He's an african-american male with glasses and a pleasant disposition on life. Something you may not know about him is he wants to do something (when his finances are more stable) to help the youth and the community that he can incorperate into his career because he feels that children are our future and we should invest in them. Matt's first language is english and he can conversate in spanish a little bit. This is not Matt's first college course, he's been at COA since 2006. Winter is Matt's favorite season because he likes to chill indoors, keep warm and play games when it's cold and raining outside. Matt read the autobiography of W.E.B. DuBois and it took his breath away.

Mr. Matthew
English 1A
Descriptive Paragraph
About my classmate: Derek
QUESTIONS:
1) Share something about yourself that Ms. Sabir doesn’t know.
2) How many languages can you read and write in?
3) Is this your first college course?
4) What’s your favorite season?
5) What book have you read recently that just took your breath away?
ANSWERS:
1) Ultimately, trying to get into law and religious science. With a cause to expose unethical organizations of the world.
2) English and Spanish. With Spanish being the first language.
3) This is the third college. Attended college twice before; briefly .
4) The fall, because that’s the beginning of football and basketball season.
5) The Turner Diaries. A book about white supremacist groups involved in government scandal.

I interviewed Derek for my paragraph. His favorite season is fall because that’s the beginning of football and basketball season. (So my brother is definitely a sports fan!) With brown hair, brown eyes, and light skin it’s not obvious to me that his decent is Cuban and Jewish. As a result he is fluent in Spanish and English. This is his third college experience. He previously attended two other colleges ,such as Saint Louis Obistbo, and didn’t prefer them for his place of study. He ultimately is trying to go into law and religious science. He is strongly motivated towards exposing corrupt and unethical organizations of the world. THE TURNER DIARIES, IS A MOST RECENT PIECE OF LITERATURE OF HIS INTEREST. The untold involvement of white supremacy groups in United States politics is part of his interest of research and study pertaining to the American government’s corruption.

She is a brown-skinned woman, 5'9, with a very bright outlook on life. Although her native tongue is English, she fluently speaks Arabic as a result of her father being born and raised in Sudan. She learned to speak a little Spanish along the way. She used to attend Bennett University, so this is not her first course here at the college. Her favorite season of the year is summer because she enjoys taking part in most of the major activities. Her favorite book that took her breath away was push.

I had posted the interview as a comment of the previous entry but I'd post it again anyway:

She was the girl with pink shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans. She was kind of quite in class. The only thing that she wants want to tell others about her is that she is Eritrean. She was born here but her family is from Eritea, a nation in Africa. She could speak Eritrean but she could not read or write in that language. English is the only language that she could read and write. She likes summer because her birthday is in summer. She just graduated from high school. She chose College of Alameda because she had been going to schools in Alameda so she wants to keep going to school in Alameda. The book that took her breath away lately is "Black" by Tracy Brown.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Dorothy Cooper who sometimes sit in the back of the class and is very quiet just like i am.

What you don't know about her unless she tells you is that she is 1% asian and that she is in fact a very nice person. I guess people seem to percieve her as being mean because of the look on her face. But you can't judge a book by its cover. People tend to do me the same way.

The language that she speaks is english because that was taught at home.

She wants to also transfer to CSU to obtain her degree in Recreational Leisure Services. No this is not her first course we actually had humanities together.

The time of the year that she enjoys is Spring because it is warm.

The book that she read that just blew her mind was called The Miseducation of the Negro...

Sounds good might pick it up for myself.
Dorothy had on black jeans and a black t-shirt with a logo on it I forgot what it was. My bad.

I had an interesting interview with Caprice Eddington. she's polite and believes in life? Caprice shared what others may seem to consider personal information about her life, and that took guts. Her personal testimony has the potential to change someone else's life. She reads and writes english and no this isn't her first course here at the COA. She is here to receive her A.A. in Business Administration. She enjoys winter time, due to the rain. Spring, because it is a time when it's warm, flowers bloom and birds chirp. Sounds too tranquil me.Lol! I'm just kidding girl. The book that took her breath away was "The Coldest Winter Ever", by Sistah Soujah. Caprice dressed casual that day, just right for the weather.

Interview Essay: Ms.Kelly liu

This is Kelly Liu aka “Ms. Kelly,” she is a 24-years old, highly intelligent lady who knows the different between being “real and fake.” I had the pleasure with interview Ms. Kelly for over in hour, and let me tell you this lady is one step away from her blessing. Ms. Kelly is a returning college student. She attended college at University State straight out of High School and her major at the time was Business Administration. However, thing don’t always go as plan, and because of personal issue Ms. Kelly decided to a break away from school to get a job. She jumped into the retail business full time. Retail was something that she is good at and she has been in the field since she was 16 years-old. However, Kelly begin to notice that she wasn’t blending in with her companies culture, so she decided to go back to school to become more fit in a multicultural environment. She explained, the people at her job were not very Americanize and she is. Ms. Kelly is now currently enrolled at College of Alameda. She is unsure of her major as of right now, but will continue to strive for higher education until she is. The summer is her favorite time of the year, because she loves the outdoor life. One of her most favorite past time was with old friends hanging out, going to plays, or chilling at restaurants enjoying each others conversations. One thing that knows one knows about Ms. Kelly is she speaks three different languages, Cantonese, English, and Japanese Wow! This interview was much needed and interesting because I got the chance to meet a value oriented person and a friend.

I had the pleasure of interviewing this wonderful lady. She is about 5’ 3” in height, and has a light skin complexion and long, pretty, straightened black hair. She is 27 years old and a mother of an 8 year-old girl. In our interview, she mentioned that she has made a lot of mistakes in her life, and is trying to get back on the right path in order to have a brighter future. Before becoming a student in college of Alameda, she graduated from Western Career to become a Medical Assistant. After working in the medical field for a while, she developed an interest of becoming a nurse, and that is what brought her to College of Alameda, is to be majored in nursing, and working towards to become a nurse. Since she is from Berkeley, so naturally English is her first language. Winter is her favor season. There is something about the holiday season that is very warm to her, things like the holiday music, cookies, etc. She also expressed to me that her ideal of passing time is to spend time with her close friends outside and in the neighborhood. There is something that you probably don’t know about her is that she gets emotional when watching movies especially movies that show animal cruelty. Judging from the given fact, I am going to guess that she is an animal lover. So there, you have it. Can you guess who is this fabulous person whom is also a trooper I must say. Anyone who is juggling between being a full time mom and a full time student is a trooper in my opinion. Go Chesi Brown!!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ms. Ashley Dorsett who opted to attend the College of Alameda following her graduation from Berkeley High School in 2007. She is currently studying communications and fashion, and upon successful completion of her AA degree, it is her intent to transfer to Cal State Long Beach or Berkeley College in New York. Thereafter, she will work toward successfully obtaining a Bachelors degree in Communications, and ultimately a Master’s degree in Fine Art for Merchandising.
Ashley’s native language is English; however, she can comprehend some Spanish. With her love of the rain and snow, it is no surprise that winter happens to be her favorite season. Hence, the reasoning behind her desire to move back East where the weather coincides with her love of the winter season
As part of the course curriculum, Ashely is currently reading the Michael Eric Dyson book entitled “Know What I Mean” which has piqued her interest in learning about how hip-hop is perceived by others. In addition, she is also enjoying the fact that she is building a stronger vocabulary in the process

sorry its late...

I'd like to introduce you all to Julian- a shy, quiet individual. He is in his first college course at College of Alameda, and didn't really have a choice when it came to enrolling in this class- it happened to be the only class available. Julian is a native english speaker and writer, and his favorite season is summer, because he is allowed more time to read. Which brings me to his favorite read thus far, Can't Stop, Won't Stop, because it is unlike any other book he has read before. Some things you all may not know about Julian is he tends to sleep alot, and he goes to the library more than three times a week.
