Who is Angela Davis?

The film did a good job of emphasizing that Angela Davis emphasized scholarly activism and critical thinking, and encouraged all of the people she worked with not to judge based on socioeconomic status or assumed level of education. Overall people who knew her responded extremely well, although the film did not actually address anyone who opposed her. At one point one of the interview subjects mentioned that the only opposition to her values was the intellectual conservative view, but I would be interested to hear what that actual view is.

Overall the quality of the movie was poor, but the message was informative.

Who is Angela Davis?
Directed by Angela Carroll

This movie was filmed in a creative yet risky way of answering the question "Who is Angela Davis?". I'd say risky because of the audio, the static noise was too loud, I think they could've used another way to liven the viewers up. It was creative how Carroll used the clay to personify Angela Davis and it would give snippets of her talking, but then again with the audio I couldn't hear it that well. I also liked that they chose to interview not just one or two people. Even though they were mostly giving their opinion, you can hear and almost feel the emotion people were giving you when they talked about her, it was genuine.I particularly liked how the gentleman who worked with her talked about her movement. It was fascinating to see how real of a person she is that she doesn't shut someone down because of their circumstances.

"Who is Angela Davis?"

The movie was formatted differently from other interview documentaries. Brightly flashing screens accompanied by loud static interspersed the short, interwoven clips of interviewees expressing their views. I think this definitely added to the attentiveness of the audience, though this technique can come off as a little too overwhelming when done in excess. The speakers presented a lot of information on Angela Davis and her work, but (like a classmate mentioned in class) a small overlay showing a little background information about them would have added more credibility to the whole film.

Who is Angela Davis?

Angela Davis is an activist who wanted for the communities to overcome the conflicts of domination, whether it being of race or gender; she is also a professor at UC Santa Cruz.

Personally, I would have liked the film better if it was more informative on the actions and background of Angela Davis more than the opinions the interviewees had to say. I felt like I was viewing Angela Davis in the eyes of those who praised her and was subject to like her, not knowing much of her completions as an activist but how amazing she was because people said so.

Also, the tactics used to create the interview was not only a distraction (although it did bring attention immediately) but had horrible sound quality where everyone seemed to mumble the greatness of the activist.

And as an addition, I would have liked to see her students from UC Santa Cruz to have participated as interviewees rather than asking random people from the streets.

Who is Angela Davis? By director Angela Carroll

Angela Davis is a role model, a teacher, and a thinker. Her influences on followers are an encouragement to embrace a broad range of knowledge. In fact she avoids talking about specialized knowledge. Also many of her followers think she is significant in the freedom movements of the 60s and 70s. It is a shame that not everyone knows who Angela Davis is; however, those that do know can feel her presence when they are reading about civil rights.

Although it was hard to hear the video, Angela Davis is involved with a non-profit organization called Critical Resistance. She was/is also part of a communist party and a professor at the University of California Santa Cruz in the Philosophy department. Furthermore, as she writes for a wider audience, she suggests that people engage in the pursuit of knowledge. Her encouragements send a message to her followers that their activism needs to be more scholarly. Her priorities involved reading a lot of her students works. As a result of her involvements, priorities, and encouragements, her followers believe that she deserves a retirement.
