Freewrite Cyber-Assignment:

Reflect on the term "freedom." If one is defying gravity then one has a sense of what it means to be free. Today, June 19, 1865, in Texas, enslaved Africans learned they were free. This message had been delayed and thus is celebrated to date in Texas and throughout the United Stated as Emancipation Day or Juneteenth.

Post your freewrites here in the "comment" section.

We got stuck for a while in the corrections of the Multiple Choice Mid-term Exam 1. Students are to email me their scores, total score, as well as the scores for each section. Conclude this note with a statement on how each of you plans to use Rules for Writers to address this deficit in your knowledge. Email to coasabirenglish1A@gmail.com

We reviewed or defined what a thesis sentence is then completed exercises in a package I handed out. Homework is to complete the package and bring to class to review with classmates.

Class is over at 10:20 a.m., so beginning Thursday, we will add the extra 20 minutes into our day (smile). Don't kill the messenger (smile).

Buy your materials. A few students had Hacker and a dictionary. Bring your materials to class daily. The response to the syllabus is due tomorrow as well.

Freedom means to have the power or right to speak or think as one wants. From our past to present, Freedom has meant so mayn different things. It has represented freedom of slavery to freedom of sexuality and it has grown. We celebrate and commemorate our new found freedomsno matter what they may be. For example, the bay area has its own celebrations for the major causes we see in our city. We have the largest population of the gay and lesbian community. I am proud to come from or be a part of a community that takes pride in who they are no matter what tradition or our government says. They are not a gang or a threat to our country. They defy gravity by living ones own path despite what others might think or believe. I think anyone who has the initiative and courage to take a stand is fighting for freedom. We have done that through history and will continue. Whether it is a young or old person fighting for a cause. Gays and lesbians fighting for equality the middle class fighting our corporations to be heard or fighting for prisoners to be free we all deserve to be heard. We live to fight for our freedom.

What does it mean to be free? To me, it can be doing whatever an individual wants, without the consequences. That is free. Or maybe it can be to live in a world, where we are not bound by our words, the color of our skin, our thoughts and opinions, our sexual orientation, or religious orientation. To live in a world without racism, and without prejudice, that is a world of freedom.

Yes, in our first amendment rights, we are given the freedom to speech, assembly, press, religion, and petition. But is our speech really free? Yesterday, it was mentioned in class that not all people who go to jail are incarcerated. Some are jailed for their own opinions and ideas.

When do we question the right of freedom? Is it when we walk down a dark alley, and years of embedded racism and stereotypes come into play? To be free is to trust everyone and anyone, regardless of looks based off first impressions.

Is freedom usually associated with the person trapped in a steel cell? Or by the stereotypes that society has engrained into our consciousness? Maybe if we look at freedom from a more literal perspective, it would help us be freer. To be “unrestricted” or “ independent.”

What freedom means to me. Freedom means never to have to ask for permission when you know you don't need it. For example the freedom to express yourself, without freedom of self expression life would be boring and bland. Because no one would be able to be who they truly are. People would always be set in a way were they had to be up to societies standards of being "accepted". what fun would that be? wothout freedom of expression people would not be able to speak their minds or even have connections with other people. Because if everyone was the same, there would be no reason really to get to know someone new. Freedom is everything in the world, because without it us, not only as Americans but as people would be considered as a dictatorship. Told by one person and on person only, how to act, what to say, and what a person can do.

Freedom, the most sought after liffestyle, pleasure, right, gift, accolade, prize. We are given this, but at times forget about how grateful we should be in this day and age. We have fought for freedom and we have searched for freedom. From far and wide we would and have died for freedom. When we look inside ourselves we find what freedom means to us as individuals. We learned to appreciate it from the getco and taught to never take it for granted. Freedom of speech, of expression, petition, press, assembly and of religion are amongst the free choices we have as Americans. We were raised on freedom and once without. America was founded on the idea of being free and independent from Britain. This was a crucial step for us. Freedom is the ultimate prize. To live and die with freedom is a true blessing. Dont settle for less and always be grateful for blessings.

Freedom is living. Being or becoming who you want to be without being judged. Defying gravity and freedom are almost the same because what I see is when you are defying gravity you are going against the grain but also becoming who you want to be and not letting anyone stop you. Freedom is basically the same thing but giving you the ability to fight for what you believe and not letting anyone stop you also, freedom is something that has been fought for for many years so now that we have it we have to make sure we hold on to it and not take advantage of it and appreciating that we have to choice to express how we feel.

Freedom is an angel that almost everyone wants to see. It gives people the right to develop themselves. I like freedom, because it offers me a chance to show my talents to the people around me. However, it is easy to have it or even touch it. As we turn our back to take a look at the history of the United Stated, the freedom did not come with the birth of the America. Many different generations of our ancestors had fought so hard to make it came true. Even now, Somewhere out of the America, people are still suffering every day under the control from the government. They don't have the chance to speak for themselves. If the life is the stage for the people, then the freedom is going to determine the roles of the people. It gives us the power to discover our ability. It offers the chance to us for speaking for ourselves.

Many things come to find when I think about the word freedom. I think that everyone in the world deserves and looks up to freedom. I also thought about the conditions people were living many years ago. Now things are much different and people have more liberty. I think that part of why there are many important women in our society and country is because of freedom. Women were restricted from doing many things years ago. They did not have the same right as men did. Today we have been able to overcome this in our society. Women have been able to break that bridge that restrained them from certain projects they were not allowed to practice. Freedom gives the right to be more independent. When you gain freedom you feel powerful, having that mentality to overcome anything. It is a great feeling. I think that when you do not t have freedom that is when your insecurities start to come in. When you feel freedom you feel independent and you feel like you do not need anyone’s help. Freedom is such a strong word and I believe can be broken in many different topics.

As I was reading over the syllabus, I was surprise to see all the material that will be covered in six weeks. I went ahead and got all the books listed on the syllabus. The syllabus is very clear and states how the assignments should be completed. I am aware that there will be four essays we will have to write in these six weeks, two of which will be based on two books assigned. I am very excited to learn about the movement of women. I know there is many women out there who have made many differences In our lives. I am eager to learn more about different women who came part of our history. I know it is very important to come to class everyday and have your mind ready to grasp all the information that is given to us. I want to be successful in this class and I know that with my hard work and the help of my professor this will be possible. The syllabus was very different to the ones that I am use to reading. Usually the syllabus just lists the assignments. This syllabus was very fun to read and you can tell that she really put in work into writing out the syllabus. This made it interesting and convinced me to read the whole syllabus as oppose to skipping some parts. I want to become a better writer and have the ability to write in a way that my writing is understood. Hopefully by the end of this course I will have achieved my goal.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of freedom is America. I know there are actually many limitations in our country, but it is still much freer than other countries. I am always shocked to learn how various countries are not allowed to speak ill of their leaders, for they run the risk of getting in trouble with authority. Perhaps this is because I grew up in America. America is the symbol of freedom, and is why others dream to come and start new lives. The land of opportunity allows others to experience what it is like to live for themselves and do things that they otherwise would not have been able to do. Although this country is not as strict as others, one still must possess the motivation to do well in order to succeed. People must take on the freedom to achieve all that they can and defy gravity for themselves. Given freedom, people can either excel to great heights or fall drastically depending on how they embrace the opportunity. It is necessary that one has the freedom to dream and imagine in order to defy gravity. If they cannot picture themselves going above and beyond what is set for them, then they will not have the ambition or courage to test their limits. So it is harder to be able to reach those far-out goals if your mind is restricted from exploring all the possibilities. The freedom to think outside the box leads you to even greater ideas, whereas a restricted mindset stops any creative flow that could better our world. Great inventions like the light bulb or electricity would have never come to be without the freedom of the mind.
To sum it all up, I believe freedom of the mind is essential to defying gravity. Without imagination and ambition, there are no goals to reach, and therefore no gravity to defy.

What is freedom? Do we have freedom? What would we do without freedom? All these questions come to our mind when we think of freedom. Freedom is the ability to express yourself . It can be idea or opinion. Freedom is not something we can buy or sell. It’s the right that every individual person needs to feel it without considering where they live, which religion, race and ethnicity they are. It’s very simple to define freedom but in reality sometimes I feel that we aren’t really free for example in my country, Afghanistan.
During all these years my people didn’t feel the taste of freedom. We always get controlled by powerful people. They took all our right and they still do like when I was back at home. I couldn’t have freedom of speech. I couldn’t stand for my right and I couldn’t express my idea as a human being. I always pray for my people so one day they get the strength to fight for their freedom and ask all the above questions from they and truly feel that they are free now.

Freedom means that people are suppose to express themselves however they please, but in a civil manner. People will have the ability to express their speech, how they dress, and what they want to do. The way that I express freedom would be expressing what I say, and what I believe in by going to mediation retreats annually. In today’s society, what it means to be free means to have the ability to get up in the morning and being able to go to work, dressed however you want and saying whatever you want that fits the status quo yet it is in a civil manner. Another way to express freedom today would be having equal access to education as well as equal access to public resources such as the library, restaurants, and parks. Relating back from yesterday’s lecture on defying gravity, freedom relates to defying gravity in ways of not giving up on your dreams and aspiration, despite what people might say or think. Freedom is also a chance for people to change the way that they are, but to also improve on your weaknesses as well as strengths. Freedom is a chance for people to speak up on what they have strong opinion about. In addition, freedom is for people to express their own style and taste of what they like without being judged and they can be in their “own world”, meaning that they could break away from the world for a while and just be who they are.

What is freedom? If we ask people this question, we will receive one hundred different answers, because every person understands freedom in his or her own way. For me, freedom is living in a democratic country with the freedom of speech, religion, and press. Freedom of speech means you have the right to say whatever you want, so long as it is truthful or an opinion. We have the right to practice a religion of our own. And also for press as long as we are expressing our opinion and the fact, we can influence others by newspapers, tv and magazines, but publishing a lie will get anyone in trouble. Living in a democratic country gives people the right to act free and express their ideas freely. For instance: today we are celebrating Juneteenth day. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States on 19 June 1865. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. I am from Africa, but my country was one of the two countries in Africa which were not colonized by the Europeans. My country Ethiopia helped the other African countries to be free from their colonizers. Because my great grand parents fought for my freedom, here I am today. I grew up learning their bravery to keep our culture, language, and country to the future generation. I am free because of them. Freedom means being independent from control and having the liberty to do whatever you want. There is nothing that hold us back when we are free.

Although freedom is not tangible, it is the best gift to be given. Freedom has multiple meanings
for everyone. Some take freedom for granted, while others value and cherish it.To be free is to have no limit and to enjoy what you have in life. It is a chance to explore without having any restriction from anyone or anything. To be able to seek the world and fulfill the dreams you always had.
Freedom allows a person to represent themselves for who they are and not be judged by others. Not everyone is given the chance to have freedom because they are limited by laws and often by powerful people.Fighting for your freedom is very important and it is very similar in defying gravity. You are resisting from being pull down and be able to show your true self. Giving freedom you have to have no fear in living because you have the opportunity to stand up for what you believe in and express your feelings to others. You are given the chance to open your eyes to a whole new world. Freedom is also represented by power of oneself. To have control of what an individual can do without being forced to do what others want them to.

Freedom is a beautiful thing to have; we all want and need freedom. We want our thoughts to be let free, our emotions to be set free, we want to fly in freedom. Unfortunately life doesn’t work like that and we don’t all have freedom, there are many reasons. Many people do not know how to let themselves in freedom, because they are too afraid, afraid of what might happen. I believe that if we live in a world of freedom, everyone would be happier because we would be able to do everything that satisfies us and we would be able to set our mind free. Sometime we just have to let go of everything, leave all of our fears behind and just set free everything we really want to do, that would be more satisfying for us.

Freedom to me is not being oppressed by anyone or anything in life in general. To be able to come and go as you please without having to worry about someone troubling your next move. Although, everyone has worries about harm being done to them, there is no escaping crime, but being able to fight back for what is right is freedom. M.D.

Freedom can be described in so many ways, as it does not pertain to only a single event in history. In the past, freedom was seen as a social status worth obtaining, to live by ones own terms, and more or less die by such terms. Now, with slavery abolished in the united states, some look to help those who are not as fortunate in other parts of the world. This shows two types of freedom alone. The ability to be free, and with this freedom, the ability to make a stand up for those who can not stand alone. There are other forms as well, such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, etc. Although there are many forms of freedom, my favorite and the form I am trying to take advantage of, is the ability to pursue my goal of becoming an architect. To one day design structures that will benefit mankind and make my ancestors proud to have faught so vigorously to give me, as well as others, the chance to achieve something that was once seen as impossible.

We all have different points of view on what the definition of “freedom” means, especially with the diversity that we have in the Bay Area. To me the word freedom means to have the ability to be able to express your ideas openly to people and learn from them as well, to gain knowledge, and be able to travel to different places around the world. To always have your feet on the ground and always be respectful of others. That’s what freedom means to me.

I agree that if a person is defying gravity, then they have to have a sense of being free. In my case, I am mentally free. Understand that I was raised in East Oakland, California in a single parent home with immediate family. I went to school in the Oakland Public School District that provided minimal resources, but I used the resources given to broaden my perceptions of life itself. I knew that what I was learning in secondary school was not "it"; It being all that was possible to learn. There are certain truths that I have come to gain knowledge of that I can say are the feathers of my wings to fly free. I am grateful for those truths as I continue defying gravity.

Freedom is just a word, and it is a very relative term. We have a lot of freedoms here in the U.S., but do we have true freedom? Sure, we have many more freedoms than are present in most of the rest of the world, but I think there are certain freedoms that are still too limited in this country, and not only by the government.
To me, freedom is being able to do anything, say anything, and think anything, as long as it causes no harm to anybody. In reality, though, even if it is legal to do some things, you still may not be better off after doing it (and there are many examples). That is wrong. I think to be truly free you should not be penalized for your choices, and what I really mean is if you choose not to fit in with the norm regarding your beliefs, whether political, religious, or philosophical, you shouldn't be penalized or discouraged to do so in any way, by anybody. I'm not saying that every person in the world has to love every other person in the world, but we all deserve each others respect (if we truly mean no harm to anybody). We supposedly have the right to peaceful assembly, but we still get tear gassed when we do it. We still have a right to freedom of religion, but people of non Judeo-Christian beliefs are continually profiled in this country. Every man is supposed to be created equal, but sexism and racism are still very prevalent. I think freedom will truly exist when we learn to respect and admire people or peoples who do not necessarily share our own beliefs or lifestyles. Until then, I think people will not feel entirely free to live the way they want, maybe not because it is illegal to do so, but because our society still values certain lifestyles and practices much more than others. Basically, I think we need to continue to improve at celebrating our differences, instead of fearing things or people that are different, for us all to be truly free.

When I think of Freedom I have mixed feelings on one hand I think of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was a part of the Civil Rights movement, and how hard he and others worked for equal rights for all. I think it is great for African Americans to know the rolls they played in making history, and even more important for use to teach our youth their history. I believe it is important to know when faced with oppression, we are all made equal. If you just stay focused, try your best, and know if it is obtainable for one its possible for all if we put our mind to it.
On the other hand I feel that slavery still exist for all people in different ways, some more than others yet we all fight for freedom in different ways daily. There is so much open unused land in the world but we still suffer from over crowed living arrangements and homelessness. My option is that a young males, especially african american males should try their hardest to avoid disobeying the law, because this is the number one way to become enslaved.
I also think of freedom of speech and where i’d be without it, being that I verbally express myself a lot. I can express myself verbally and really look forward to learning the technique of expressing exactly what I’m thinking as you did in our syllabus.

If freedom means that everyone is free to do whatever he or she wants, the world is already ended by all kinds of wars. For me, freedom is the individual right reserved to each person, and it’s based on respects of other’s living rights without any physical hurts. One of the facts goes back to 1865 when enslaved Africans’ rights were contradictory with their owners. It was where one party’s freedom becomes another party’s repression. Today, thanks to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, our bodies and minds are protected from being “free-people’s” victims. However, in some countries, some people are still fighting hard for freedom. For example, Aung San Suu Kyi fights for Burma democracy even if she spent more than 15 years in the prison. I think that she is a real free woman with defying gravity.

Freedom is something that comes in different forms in everyone’s lives. Freedom can be in the form of free will, rights, responsibitlies and etc. Gernerally freedom is what it means to be free. It doesn’t mean we are limitless and can do the impossible, it just means we are free to define our lives by the way we want to live. Sadly not everyone gets the taste of freedom. To me freedom is like being like breaking free from something that holds you back or just being able to true to ourselves. What you do with your freedom is up to you. You can use you’re freedom to express yourself or you can abuse it but it all comes with a price.

Quickwrite: Freedom
Freedom is when one doesn’t have to be restricted from the decisions that one makes. For example, the complete opposite would be slaves. I have learned so much about them throughout my school years. Slaves don’t have freedom at all. They have owners who tell them what to do and slaves have no say in anything at all. They can’t do anything for themselves but obey and that’s not what freedom is about at all. But today marks the day where enslaved African Americans learned that they are free. Freedom allows people to believe what they want, decide what they want, and say what they want without having to ask another’s permission. But I don’t think there’s an exact definition for freedom, it’s more of a feeling you get. I feel that I have plenty of freedom in my life. I have never been grounded or stopped from going to places that I really want to go. I would always be given a choice. But there were times when I wasn’t allowed to do something because my mom felt that it was unsafe. I may be limited to some things but in the end, I get to choose how I want to live my life.

Finally summer is here, the time has come, the moment is near. the heat waves rising, the sun is out, the sweat drips, that's not surprising.
My inspiration comes like the rays from the sun. Striking my chest like a high caliber gun.
And in this heat I feel paled and oblique, my skin becomes stale, brown and unique.
Smiles in the air, the world is slowly changing, there's no time to spare with this passion in me ragging.
people to talk places to see, take a love walk on a hot summers eve.
And at this time there's nothing better to do then to be in the sunsets enjoying the view.
Summer is my season, the time I was born
Yet i know my reasons to love the Storms.

As I imagine myself lost in space, like a shooting star in the galaxy.
I contemplate this place, though I can't help feeling the void in my fantasy. Freedom is only found in my dream world, were the lines bend to become circlers and swirls.
Here, I am free! Like a bird in the sky's.
Free from demons that once hurt my life.
Easy to say easy to see that my fears are gone, it's like I been reborn.
Fear was my cage! the reason for my sorrow, a living dead never hopping for tomorrow!
Cursed in abundance, shame was my sin, my words were redundant, but now i can truly say am free.
