Tupac Shakur more than just a rapper he was molded into world as an unacknowledged philosopher of many talents. In the book, “Holler If You Hear Me” by Michael Dyson, speaks deeply on the events of his life that made him into the person that left an impact on many people in the world. In chapter two’s theme, it revolves around topics indulgence with his intelligence beyond just rap music and hip hop. Tupac is full of great knowledge, while growing up in the life of black panthers, civil rights activists and struggle he had no choice to be a great artist and portray his life and major issues in his music. Despite, Tupac Shakur being a son of a black panther he didn’t choose to grow up in a living a life of a pain, but that did not stop him to put him out in the world and learn everything that was put into his hands.

Unlike the members of the Black Panthers who chose to be apart of the movement, Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur, brought him into this world and he slowly followed in her footsteps to be apart of the movement. According to Michael Dyson, “Tupac imbibed his disdain for racial oppression from his mother’s revolutionary womb. For example, it quotes “As Tupac’s godfather, Black Panther Elmer “Geronimo” Pratt remarks, the artist “was born into the movement” (48). Tupac began to mature in age, he began to show his appreciation of life and his roots in different ways, “From the very beginning, Tupac was, as Pratt says, “fascinated with the history of that which he was born into.” (50) exposing that he had a mind of his own and that it was more than his mother’s upbringing that made him the individual that he was. Afeni Shakur, constantly explained to her children about how it is important to say truthful in any situation whether it is good or bad, she felt that family should not hide anything. Tupac also read many books, he was not just into the street life, and he was an intellectual young man, who could have a conversation about almost anything, even though he did not have a high school diploma. It was as if Tupac had been in this world before, he took pride in his cultural background and cared about his people so in his music he revealed his hunger for change in the world for the better.

Tupac lived an unsettle life, he had goals and dreams, but many were broken down by his mother’s on and off drug abuse lifestyle. His talents, wasn’t anything new to his family and friends as a young boy. But forced having to relocate with his family time to time because their family was under watch, because his family was apart of a movement that was also dangerous, made him at times give up. As, Tupac read so many books he could teach a class “How much wisdom could one expect from an artist who barely lived beyond his twenty-fifth birthday, even though he was hugely talented and precocious to a fault? It is a testament to his gargantuan gifts-" (48) but many people judge him so much they did not take out the time side to see all of Tupac’s dimensions. The government broke up numerous of black families, causing a lot of black male panthers to be in a situation to leave their families behind. A true statement, Tupac was an example of not having a father around, because the FBI frequently investigated Tupac about his stepfather, Mutulu Shakur’s location. After, all these family member abandonment he had to watch during his life continued to make him think about his struggle.
In Today’s society, Tupac is still brought up in everyday conversations, yet he has been deceased for over a decade, People, have done many studies and realize that the he was a complete genius, but the circumstances of his lifestyle caused him to float in other directions that conflicted with his life. The media used Tupac as a target for his gangster rap by saying he was the reason behind many youths behavior. The media instead should have looked deeper into his life to find the reason of how became to be this painful person crying out for help. Author, Michael Dyson, explains very detailed how “Tupac was born into this world” and he did not expect the journeys that were just thrown at him, but he some how rode them out well.
