We completed the film: Argumentation. Post a response to the film. What did you learn about argumentation? What is an argument? How is this form of discourse an importatn one to master? In what ways is an uninformed public vulnerable to persuasion unknowingly?

Have you ever been the victim of a fallacious argument? Many times this takes the form of propaganda or advertising.

Response to Argumentation Video

The video has demonstrated the form of argumentation, it has presented new terms that I have never heard of and realized the importance why arguments are important as a tool outside of the classroom. A new term I have never heard of it was called syllogism, it is a form of inductive reasoning, it is a great tool to follow up on a statement to support your reasoning. Inductive reasoning is getting from general to specific. Deductive reasoning is the inverse or inductive, from special to general.

Argumentation is beneficial tool as it can easily persuade the opposition, such as a courtroom in front of the jury, Political speeches anywhere in the community, like recently in our school budget cuts. Many ideas in arguments will be on trial, not everyone will agree to the idea presented to them. The audience to who you speak to are usually three of the following: an agreement party, a disagreement party, and know nothing party.

It is important that your argument does not have your perspective itself, you have be open to the subject and give valid evidence when presenting them. Sometimes, the supporting evidence will not always come from experts that they are claimed to be, writers must research them. In preparation of an argument, there are three forms of arguments to take on. First one is using your stand on the subject, do your best to be clear and write the critique as as much as possible. Second one is preparing for what opposition they will ask next, question yourself if your audience will argue your idea. And thirdly, taking the opposition and refute it, counter support your reasoning, refute them. These three forms create a well convincing paper or document.

I have learned that argument does not involve misunderstand, but rather hypothesis true against another person. There are different forms of argument, Syllogism, good argument, inductive form of reasoning. Inductive form or reasoning can also be valid or invalid. An argument is one or more meaningful proposition sentences. An argument is a discussion in which reasons are advanced for and against some proposition or proposal. Most argument sentences are considered true or false. Argument is expressing individual knowledge without conflict. The form of discourse is important, because it helps to understand and support your statement of true. An uninformed public vulnerable is persuasion, because reading a persuasive paper can allow you to have a conversation with anyone.

Argumentation Video
Argumentation is an activities journal that gathers academic contributions from a wide range of scholarly backgrounds and approaches to reasoning, natural inference and persuasion: communication, linguistics, discourse analysis, formal and informal logic, critical thinking, history and law. Its scope includes a diversity of interests, from philosophical, theoretical and practical topics. The art of argumentation is not an easy skill to acquire. Many people might think that if one simply has an opinion, one can argue it effectively, and these people are always surprised when others don't agree with them because their logic seems so correct.
Mostly I think it is about convincing someone and proving a point. We all use argumentation on a daily basis, and I already have some skill at crafting an argument. The more I improve my skills in this area, the better I will be at thinking critically, reasoning, making choices, and weighing evidence.

An argument is a claim that can be debatable. There are different ways to go about when writing an argumentative essay. You can take your position and use evidence to best explain your stance. Second anticipate what the opposing party will say and prepare. Third is to refute everything the other person is talking about and why it’s wrong. In the film I was confused with the lingo and structure it all seemed overwhelming. For example, syllogism, enthymeme, fallacy. What I got from the video was that syllogism is a deductive form of reasoning, the rest is a blur. Dr. William mentioned that an argumentative essay is very important when entering the business, political science, or law field. The crucial part of your essay is your evidence. “When you gather evidence and put ideas together, they build on one another.” An uninformed public is vulnerable to persuasion without knowing because it all depends how the speaker talks about his topic when he uses informal syllogism, they’re using something that’s generally acceptable. I have most likely been a victim of a fallacious argument by the media and the people running for office because they tend to just want the people’s vote or to gain audience.

Response to argumentation video:

I liked the points they made about the van being too expensive to justify the cost of keeping it as opposed to buying a new van. They presented solid information comparing both costs, as well as including info from other sources like the mechanic.

An uninformed public is vulnerable to outside info because they have no concrete info themselves to campare and contrast. Without concrete info, they make uninformed decisions.

Argument is a discussion in which disagreement is expressed, it is when 2 sides, or 2 groups of people do not have the same opinion towards a certain topic or discussion, it is when people share their own ideas and the other people disagrees. “When you gather evidence and put ideas together, they build on one another.”,it makes sense because its putting all the things you know in order to make a stronger , more clear answer or explanation about a certain topic. Not every argument has to result in conflict, it is usually better off just explaining each sides and learning more from each other. Sometimes, after hearing the other side or the opinion of another person, one might change his/her mind and switch to another argument, which is not so bad, it is just the way our brain works.
