Today we met in the library as planned for a library orientation. Post a reflection on the orientation: what new information did you discover, what was a reminder of information or research strategies you already knew?

Respond to one other student. Don't forget to post the thesis sentence response to the assignment yesterday. Only one student did so far.

Library Orientation
The Library Orientation today was very interesting. I already know about the database, but I didn’t no about the one hear but the database in Berkeley City College. I think it’s more steps that you have to take to get to what you need. I honestly think that it’s better because it’s specific on what you need to do. I learned about how the book system works. If a book is on reserve then you can take it home, if the book is on reference it’s only for library use only. You can only use it for two hours. The pages that she showed us today were Book Categories, Article Database, and Library Handouts.

Library Orientation

I found the library orientation extremely useful. I I really liked that we have access to so many databases and ways to do research. I do think the orientation was a bit long but it was very helpful and informative. I also liked that you can look on the COA Library website and look for books at the other Peralta colleges.

Library Orientation

The orientation for me was very unexpected. I actually didn't go to straight to the library this morning because I didn't check my e-mail. It was nice to get familiar with the database system and other online tools. In a way I felt like the orientation was a little bit boring because she was explaining some online mechanics that most of us young'ins already know how to do. I also liked those desks we were sitting in, those were more comfortable than other desks. All in all, it was nice be informed of these resources and to get familiarized with them.

Response to Library Orientation

The library orientation was very informative. I do not know much about the library except that there are books there and you can check them out. I was introduced me to the book catalog which I had no idea about. The Professor explained very clearly how to go about finding books. She explained which ones could and could not be checked out and how they were separated. She also informed us on how to search through websites for research and which sites the College of Alameda offers. For example the Article Databases that are free for students where we would usually have to pay for. It was extremely helpful to learn how to navigate through the site. Overall the orientation was very useful and to know the librarian is there to assist me if I have problems with research projects helps a lot.

Response to Quincy Taylor’s Library Orientation Post

In Quincy Taylor’s response to the library orientation he mentions the subjects the instructor covered: Article Databases, Book categories, and the library handouts. We both learned about how the book system works and how the reference books are for in-library use only.

Library Orientation Response

I have only been to the library twice before; the first times for the college orientation, and the second was to find out that the writing lab was closed that day. I really found the orientation very useful. It was very useful for her to base the orientation on an assignment that is given in our class. I have never heard of the database before, so that was very useful to figure out. I now know where things actually are. The online library sources seem very organized and extremely useful! When I first read the email I was expecting a lot less than that. I thought it would be more like a tour. It turns out that I learned a lot now I know where to go when I need help with certain things.

I like how you brought up the article database. That was very useful how she showed us how to use it; I forgot about that though. It seems like that will be extremely useful for the social entrepreneur paper.

The library orientation was very helpful. I am glad that I was able to attend it because it gave me the opportunity to get more familiar with the library and its resources. I had no idea that the library provided so many resources. The library database seems to be a great source to use for my social entrepreneur assignment. I found it very helpful that the librarian based most of her information she provided us with off of the homework assignments we will soon be doing. I am sure that I will one of the students who will definitely take advantage of this awesome recourse.

Response to Nina:
I can agree with Nina Pesco, the orientation was a little long for me but it was definitely a lot of extremely helpful information given. Also like the fact the students are able to look on COA website for books for classes.

Library Orientation Response

Today's orientation was so interesting. Even though,I have some idea how to search for things on the internate. I don't know that much about our school library database, except books which you can check out or use in the library for certain period of time. But today,I learned how to use all pages from the library website, more over she showed us how to search from home using the library website.

Response to Library Orientation

I felt that the library orientation was extremely helpful. It is my first semester at the school, and I had not yet explored the database or much of the reference material they had. I think it is nice that we can access the database from our computers, as well as look up links that will help us with our social entrepreneur essay. Moreover, the thorough search details make it very easy to find exactly what you need.

Response to Edwin Peabody:

Edwin brought up how the librarian based a lot of what she told us off of our homework assignments, and how helpful it was. I agree with this, I felt that it made the presentation more engaging because it was information that we will actually be using.

Response to Library Orientation

The orientation to the COA library yesterday was very informative and thorough. The speaker explained where to find different types of text in the library, showed us how to use the libraries online database as well as briefly going through how to cite sources using MLA style. I think the orientation will defiantly help me get familiar with the libraries resources and its online database.

Response to Nina Pesco

Nina pointed out that you can look on the COA Library website and look for books at the other Peralta colleges. I think that’s a really helpful tool to use when searching for a book and I had forgotten the speaker said we could do that. I also agree that the orientation was a bit long and seemed to drag on.

Library Orientation

I really appreciated the orientation that the librarian gave us last week. I found the information very useful. I always wondered if community college libraries had online databases that could be accessed from and remote location by student and they do. It also feels good to have a library that reaches out to it's students and make us aware of all the information that we have access to.

Library Orientation

The Library Orientation today was nice because we pretty much got a free period. I already knew about the database, and how to look up books but I didn’t know that we could only use the study rooms for only two hours. I like the fact that the librarian has a dded a link specifically for our social entrepreneur project. All in all it was a little helpful, the most helpful part being the Project part of the presentation. I also feel a little more comfortable knowing i can ask the librarian for help.
