How do your ancestors impact your life consciously and unconsciously? How are days like All Saints Day (Nov. 1) and Halloween (Oct. 31), a reminder of this?

My ancestors affect my life in many ways, even ways I didn't think of. For most of my life I was a Jehova Witness, so I did not celebrate any holidays. Having not celebrated anything was fine, but there were certain things that I did find rather interesting, like the Day of the Dead or "Dia de los Muertos", which is a Mexican celebration honoring the dead. I feel that this celebration is very important, since it shows how my ancestors honored the dead and those gone, and still keep people in their hearts.

Most of my ancestors were farmers that immigrated to the United States from Croatia, and settled in Ohio. These ancestors are from my father's side of the family. I'm not sure if my grandfather had the time to embrace the American culture by celebrating Halloween, because he went to school seven days a week, and woke up at 3:00 in the morning every day to work on the farm. Also, Halloween originated in Ireland, and I don't have ancestors from Ireland. Even though I celebrated Halloween as a kid, this is not an example of how my ancestors Impacted my life, but it shows how American Culture impacted my family's second and third generation on United States Soil.

Ancestors - Free-write

Our ancestors have a big impact on our everyday lives. Scientifically speaking, we have inherited their physical and emotional traits and characteristics. Culturally speaking, we are probably very strongly influenced by their beliefs and values. Their long-established ways have instilled within us a similar set of traditions and customs. The annual celebrations in tribute of Halloween and All Saints Day are examples of these deeply-rooted practices that strongly continue to this day. In more ways than one, our ancestors live on within us.

I didnt think the way my ancestors did things especially during Halloween were different until i came here in the United States about 6-7 years ago. Back in the Philippines, people spend November 1st and 2nd remembering their dead loved ones by going either the cemetery or the memorial park. While others celebrate it with pumpkins or trick or treats, filipinos, my ancestors celebrate it through candles, flowers, prayers and visit to the cemetery. My ancestors pretty much influenced the way i celebrate Halloween, i spend like a day to reminisce about my loved ones who passed away already, and since i usually celebrate Halloween here, i also spend a day doing the traditional Western countries kind of celebration.

Ancestors
My ancestors come from France , Africa and immigrated to America. Most of my ancestors were in business man hard working men and women. These ancestor are both of my Mother , Father side of the family. My ancestors didn't like America much because they thought of America of America as selfish country and they didn't wanted their grand children to live American culture lifestyle.I think that they were talking about me as example. I was born in New York but my ancestor are french , African. Even though my ancestors didn't have a lot of impacted in my life , but they give me sense of appeciation where I am come from and I learned family values from my ancestors. When it comes to Holloween they celebrated it differently. For example they did some old African culture tration stuff for celebration.

My ancestors were both from Ethiopia I think growing up we all adapt to cultures and customs that have been carried by our ancestors passed through out our grandparents and parents.my ancestors didn’t really know much about Halloween because where I was from we didn’t celebrate halloween.but they did celebrate the all saints day. I feel that if our Ancestors hadn’t carried on this traditions of celebrations we wouldn’t have nothing to celebrate about.
