Muhammad Yunus

This week in class we looked at the 3-part thesis statement. Today we watched a New Heroes video about Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank. We also developed thesis sentences together using the 3-part thesis sentence to structure it.  Here is a link to program description: http://www.pbs.org/opb/thenewheroes/meet/silbert.html

Essay 3 Homework

Homework is to bring in an outline using the form described in the worksheet handed out (3-part thesis). Students are also to bring in their thesis sentences completed and an Initial Planning Sheet.

Bring They Say and Rules for Writers to class daily.

Note:

If you have been excessively absent or have not turned in Essays 1-2, you should make an appointment to see me to see if there is a chance you can pass the class.  If you missed the presentations, have not gotten your Social Entrepreneur approved, or shared with me your literature search this week, it's time to talk to me.

Make an appointment. I am around a lot during the week.

Notes 2

Here are notes from the board today re: 3-part thesis sentences

Although chronic homelessness is a huge problem in major cities in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mimi Silbert's Delancey Street Foundation tirelessly addresses this need daily, because she believes rehabilitation is real or possible for everyone given the right tools.

Although Mrs. Rosa Parks is primarily known for her refusal to release her seat on a Montgomery bus in 1955, a recent political biography shows us a Parks virtually unknown in popular culture, because (according to scholar and author Jeanne Theoharis, on Parks's 100th anniversary year) the fictitious veil seems to be fastened with super glue.
